When it comes to showerheads, convenience is one of the most important aspects to consider. For this reason, Moen added a magnetic docking system to their line of Magnetix shower heads to make using them convenient and easy.
The Moen Magnetix range, consisting of the Moen Magnetix Engage, Moen Attract with Magnetix, and others has a magnetic remote dock that holds the handheld shower head in place by simply bringing it close to the dock. Besides that, they have other great features with good built quality.
Having used some Moen Magnetix handheld shower heads like the Moen Engage Magnetix and Moen Attract with Magnetix shower heads, I can say they deserve praise as they’re some of the best handheld shower heads. They’re good-looking and are fairly priced as well.
The Dock
The most unique aspect of the Magnetix range of shower heads from Moen is the magnetic docking system. In other shower heads, it is a cradle that you have to be accurate with each time you need to use the handheld showerhead.
With the Moen Magnetic remote dock, the handheld shower head magnetically attaches to the dock. When docked, Magnetix showerheads are well-positioned to serve as fixed showerheads whereby you can take a shower hands-free.
When you need to use the shower in other positions, you simply pull off the shower head from the dock, use it then put it back even with your eyes closed. You don’t need to align or see the dock as the magnets do it for you. As long as you’ve brought it close enough, it’ll snap into place and stay there until you pull it off again.
The magnet on the shower head is just right in that it isn’t too strong that it needs to be yanked off to release the shower head or too weak that it falls off by itself.
The only downside to this dock is that it doesn’t allow for multiple docking angles. The docking surface is flat and forces you to use that angle. The angle is, however, quite comfortable to use for most people at different heights.
Shower Heads
Moen Magnetix showerheads come in various designs either with single or double heads. The Moen Engage Magnetix, for example, has a single shower head attached to the dock with a hose and a docking mechanism. The Moen Attract Magnetix is also a single showerhead.
Both of these shower heads can be found in combination designs with a handheld and fixed shower head. The handheld one uses the magnetic docking system described above while the fixed one stays fixed and is larger for an immersive shower.
You can use both shower heads simultaneously or use them independently. In my experience using the combo design, the pressure from the shower was slightly low when both shower heads were turned on.
For the combination shower heads, the rain shower head has one full flow function in which a full rainfall experience is replicated. The rain shower head is 6.75 inches in diameter which covers the whole body when in use.
The dockable shower head has 6 different shower settings and is 3.75 inches in diameter. You switch between these spray functions using either a dial control or push-button on the stem of the handheld shower head.
The showerheads are made of high-quality plastic which can withstand some abuse when in use. You won’t need to worry about normal use wearing them out. However, be careful not to drop it too many times since it might get damaged.
The showerheads don’t pivot in different directions. Even for the combo designs, the rain shower head doesn’t change direction. The freedom you have is in the handheld one which can be twisted and turned in many different directions to the exact spot you want the water to be.
In my use of this line of shower heads, a shower head with a handle is an added advantage over fixed ones and Moen makes the best of both worlds. The flow rate of 2 GPM (gallons per minute) is powerful enough to provide a strong shower even when you switch between the many spray options.
The video below from Moen shows a demo of the basic features of the Moen Magnetix range of shower heads:
Hose
The hoses linking Moen Magnetix shower heads to the dock are at least 57 inches in length. The hose is made of high-quality flexible metal which ensures that it doesn’t tangle or get worn out when in use. On the inside is a flexible plastic. It’s long enough making it easy to use the shower head.
I noticed that the 57 to 60 inches of length on these hoses are meant to prevent the shower head from hitting the floor when it slips from your hand. This prevents damage to the shower head when dropped.
Build Quality
The shower heads are made of high-quality plastic which won’t give you a problem. They’ll last for a long time in most use-case scenarios and only when you drop them frequently will you experience leaks and dents or even breakages.
The hose is made of aluminum material making it light and durable.
Both the shower head and hose are then coated with a finish such as bronze, nickel, or chrome as per your liking.
In my experience reviewing showerheads and other plumbing appliances, most are made of plastic (even the expensive ones) to make them light and rust-resistant. When using the handheld shower head by Moen, for example, you get a steady grip and won’t be bothered by the weight.
To avoid leaks and damage to the parts of the shower head, avoid using wrenches when tightening them. Instead, use a wet piece of cloth and use the hand to tighten them. Better yet, always use Teflon tape with all threads on the fixture.
Finishes
With the Moen Magnetix range of showerheads, you get them in Chrome or Spot Resist Brushed Nickel. Both finishes look great and it all depends on how you want the shower head to look in your bathroom.
